The autumn meeting of the Willem Mengelberg Society will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, November 7. Once again, we will be hosted by the Institute of Sonology at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.
There will be two speakers this afternoon: Herman Rieken, a percussionist with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and Professor Willem de Haan, whose new book, the result of research into the lives of the seventeen Jewish members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra during the 1940–1945 period, is set to be published in October. This research has culminated in the book Terug! Ontslagen Joodse musici uit het Concertgebouworkest, 1940–1945 (“Going back! Dismissed Jewish Musicians from the Concertgebouw Orchestra, 1940–1945”).
